A Brief
Introduction:
We have the pleasure to inform you that Islamic Organization for
Medical Sciences (IOMS) in collaboration with World Health Organization
Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO/EMRO) and ISESCO (Islamic
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) organized an
International
Conference on “Islamic Code of Medical Ethics” in Cairo,
Egypt and discussed the views and opinions
of leading scholars
to

develop an agenda
as a blueprint or guide for effective and practical application
of Islamic Code derived from Islamic Sharia in the following three
areas:
(1)
Ethics for new researches on human beings.
(2) Ethics for the application of newer medical issues (e.g. surrogate
uterus, organ transplantation, human genome, etc.)
(3) Ethics for the medical practices.
The language of the
Conference was Arabic and English with

arrangement
of simultaneous interpretation in either languages.
The Conference
was held in Hotel Meridien, Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt from 11
to 14 December, 2004.
A model Islamic Code
of Medical Ethics was published by IOMS in 1980 and several issues
have since been incorporated in the light of the development of
the life style and the new technology introduced in the field of
