International Conference on “International Islamic Code for Medical and Health Ethics
1 1-14 December 2004 Cairo, Egypt

A Brief Introduction: We have the pleasure to inform you that Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in collaboration with World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO/EMRO) and ISESCO (Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) organized an International Conference on “Islamic Code of Medical Ethics” in Cairo, Egypt and discussed the views and opinions of leading scholars to

develop an agenda as a blueprint or guide for effective and practical application of Islamic Code derived from Islamic Sharia in the following three areas:

(1) Ethics for new researches on human beings.
(2) Ethics for the application of newer medical issues (e.g. surrogate uterus, organ transplantation, human genome, etc.)
(3) Ethics for the medical practices.

The language of the Conference was Arabic and English with

arrangement of simultaneous interpretation in either languages.

The Conference was held in Hotel Meridien, Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt from 11 to 14 December, 2004.

A model Islamic Code of Medical Ethics was published by IOMS in 1980 and several issues have since been incorporated in the light of the development of the life style and the new technology introduced in the field of medicine.
